Professional hair products

Ever wonder why your salon is stocked with so many hair products?  Well I am here to break down the numerous reasons why a salon has so many retail products and why it is best to purchase directly from your stylist.

  1. Quality of the product.  For instance Redken only sells to authorized salons or spas.  If you find a Redken product in Target, Kohl’s, T.J. Maxx, Amazon… just to name a few,  those products are most likely expired, watered down or just plan counterfeit copycats that are not safe to use.  This is an example of diversion. Diversion occurs when products are sold in “unauthorized” places. Redken states on all its advertising, “Genuine Products Guaranteed Only in Salons.” This means if you buy Redken products in a supermarket, drugstore or any other outlet other than an authorized salon we cannot guarantee that it is an authentic Redken product that will perform as tested.

    ARE YOU IN DANGER?
You could be. Contaminated or counterfeit products could cause irritation or even infection.

  1. Subpar ingredients.  As a salon professional we advise clients to purchase high quality hair products to preserve color, maintain healthy hair and reduce product build up.  We always knew Pantene was terrible for the hair but recently we found out first hand how TERRIBLE it truly is. According to stylist Patrik Alan Simpson, the shampoo has “plastic and silicones in it and when it comes in contact with a bleach or hi-lift color it reacts and the bleach will melt off the build up and becomes a very hot liquid and if it [comes] in contact with skin it will cause a burn.”  We recently had this exact same situation in the salon. We were baffled and had to be resourceful to finish the client’s hair and have her leave with beautiful hair which, thankfully in the end she ended up with beautiful hair BUT while foiling her, the foils became extremely hot and steaming.  Come to find out she was using Pantene shampoo and conditioner. The cheaper products are NOT worth it!

  2. To your stylist further education.  Each client that purchases a product is helping to fund your stylists’ next educational trip to NYC, Vegas, FL, Philadelphia or where ever the business may take them.   In order for the stylists of Grace Kelly Salon to stay on top of the trends and ensure our clients walk out with the newest greatest look the team must continually receive new education.  Just think each time you purchase a product from the salon you are helping your stylist to broaden their color, design and styling horizons.

Expert advice.  Out of all the people in this world who knows your hair best?  Your stylist that’s who! We always hear “I wish I could style my hair like that.”  So why wouldn’t you want your stylist to send you home with the perfectly prescribed products to ensure the style and health of your hair?  If your stylist does not offer you a lineup of the products used, just ask them and they will be more than happy to show you what will work best for your hair/style.
